An "Aussie-ism" at play.
Ute is short for utility vehicle. Much like a sedan sized pick up truck: http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=ut...l3YDADA&zoom=1 OP, I've wondered the same thing. A quick google has revealed specs of about 500mm......roughly 20". If your case is 20" deep or less there a good change it'll fit.

If it's going to be a ute, you've got heaps of room for the entire kit (unless you're talking a Holden Crewman with the smaller tray)? What exactly is the "tub" of the ute you're referring to?

It'll be the tray.

I checked out a VE SS ute, I didn't measure anything but it looked fine. Obviously you'd be laying the kick flat, you could always measure the height then have a look when you go to the dealer just to be sure.
The dealer I spoke to actually knew a drummer who owns a maloo with the hard top and he said it was a pain in the arse getting drums in and out because of the way it raises up (it's like a lid that lifts up from one side so it's angled). He said that it still works okay but you're better off with the retractable cover like the tradies use.

Haha loving all the comments about what a 'ute' actually is- I should have specified, my bad! I'm going to try and get it in the back of a VE tonight, as far as I am aware the tub/tray is deeper on late model Holden utes. I know that I'll be able to fit the whole kit in the tray, so long as the kick fits in. I'm not too fussed on the angle it raises at just as long as its in there and locked when I'm not around!
P.S. I was looking at VY/VZ models as VE's tend to be a few thousand more. But if I need it for a deeper tray then I guess I'll have to fork out the money. |

That's hilarious (we won't go into the difference of the word "thong" between Yanks and Aussies then) : )

Well, tried it into a VE SV6 ute and no luck. About an inch or two too big, devastating.

Surely you could mod the tray or the cover to accommodate.
Or look at hot hatches.
