Default I sold a kit and got a tree stump as partial payment.

Sonor Vintage Series kit goes out the door. I wanted all cash but I was intrigued by an offer of cash + this 200 year old hollowed out tree stump. Having made the deal I figured I'd relist it as even at what I considered fair used market value it would bring me back some significant cash.

Well like an idiot I put it on the snare stand and took a couple whacks at it. Might be, no it is, the best snare I've ever played. Even the overtones sound good. This thing isn't going anywhere !! More later, I've got to head for work. Here's a couple pics.

And it looks like it matches perfectly with you drum kit too.

Congrats those are amazing snares, I tried a 8x14 at DrumcenterNH and was very impressed. The price was beyond my budget though.

Wow, that thing is beautiful. Oh the dangers of that little taste! :)

After a little time with it I'm pretty impressed with it's tuning range. I'm not sure if the attack is little too focused for my tastes. The articulation/stick response is amazing even at low tuning. One thing of note is that the shell curves inward at the top and bottom. I mention this because I tried both a Remo PS3 and a Genera HD on it and the bearing edge seemed to sit right in the middle of the dampening rings, rendering that particular head design rather useless. It sounds pretty darn good with a coated ambassador on it. It really has some bite. I want to try an Aquarian texture coated on it and see if that works a bit better. I wouldn't think this thing would have any problem cutting through the mix in any type of band setting.

This is a 2007 issue, serial #325. There is not a mark on it. All original except for top head. Beautiful instrument.

Great drum and a true solid shell.
