Default Need Advice on Yamaha Beech Custom Absolute Please

I have a chance to get a used six piece (3 up, 2 down & bass) set of Yamaha Beech Custom Absolute and I need your advice. They are asking about $1200 and describe them as fair condition. There aren't enough other similar kits out there to help me to figure out what the average price would be. What do you think is a good average price?

The sound is described as lots of low end, lots of tone & loud. They are large sized toms with a 22" bass drum - would you say that is a correct description?

I was thinking about getting a new set of the Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple when I came across this Beech set. I already own a set of "Bonham" sized Ludwig drums and I am really looking for that Absolute Hybrid Maple sound, but the Beech is 1/3 the price & I do like drums with lots low end, lots of tone.

I would greatly appreciate any advice and/or opinions you have. Thanks

I had one of the original Beech Customs in the early 2000s. It sounded awesome. Whole lotta balls. I only sold it because the power toms were a bit too deep for my positioning preferences, so it never felt fully "right" to me. If I could find a black Beech Custom (Absolute or not) set with "traditional" sized toms at the same time I have the disposable income, I'll definitely jump on it.

The term "fair condition" is a bit worrisome though.

3 rack toms and 2 floor toms? If the kit is in good condition then I think that's a fair price. Those drums aren't the best made by Yamaha but they are great drums and he could probably sell them for more, and those are real hard to come by now in a full set

What do you mean "aren't the best"? I mean, they weren't Yamaha's most expensive line, but they were a pro level set all the way. Certainly on par with maple and birch Absolutes.

I would definitely worry about the whole "fair condition" thing. I would ask for more detailed pics if I were you. Obviously, if you can check them out in person, that would be best.
