DTX 502? Extra pad sounds.

Just got a DTX 562K and am loving it, great kit. I know I want to add an extra tom and maybe cymbal down the road. My questions are:

1. When you add an extra trigger source does the 502 module recognize what you added and voice it for all the built in kits? So if lets say I add a tom, will the brain know I added a tom and then add the extra tom to all the kits with the voicing different than the existing tom's? If not can it be done manually without having to do it for each kit?

2. If I use the ride cymbal and split its signal for an extra trigger source, does it need to be a cymbal I add or can it be say a tom? And will I lose 2 zones on the cymbal making it a single trigger source or will I only lose 1 and still have a 2 zone cymbal?

Thanks

To add additional pads use the tom inputs and the kick input, those can be split into 2 mono pads. The ride, crash and snare inputs are meant for 3-zone pads. The split inputs can have different sounds assigned such as Tom 1/Pad 10 (tom, cymbal, percussion, etc..)

Hope this helps,

For a better answer, I'll tell you I have the older DTX500 module and you will NOT want to try and split a 3 zone pad. First off, it makes the cymbals unable to be choked and second of all it's just a bad idea. you would be splitting a triple zone pad into 2 single zones (if it even works). The single zone pads however are designed to be able to be "added to". And no, the default kits will not recognize that you added a tom or cymbal pad. All it knows is that you added an additional pad. Mine always makes extra pads either cymbals or cowbells. You must go into the module and set up the extra pads how you'd like to have them.

I hope this helps,
Defender

Thanks for the help guys. I will split the tom with the new added tom and use the kick for the cymbal I add. I will go in and change the settings in the module to make sure it knows what is added.

After I change it in the module will all the kits recognize it so that when I change kits the added cymbal and tom are already there or do I have to change each kit and then save them as user kits?

As much as I love this DTX 562K I have to admit Yamaha dropped the ball on thinking outside the box on it. You should be able to use your computer to adjust all the kits. It should work like EZdrummer does where you pull up a kit, select what pieces you want to use and then load it back into the 502 module. For a company as large as Yamaha they don't appear to have real world users help shape their products effectively. Example: they only have Apple apps for the DTX. Lets see, Android is the most popular platform in the world so lets just ignore that whole demographic. Not the brightest business plan if you ask me.

Thanks again for all the help.

+1000 about the Android and external computer.

Got my new cymbal and hooked it up and it works perfect in all kits. No programming needed. In fact it really sounds better than the 2 other cymbals settings. Might have to tweak them a bit. No I'm just waiting on the new Tom and I will see what the 502 module does and how much I have to do to get it set up as a 4th Tom.

Thanks for the help guys!

Charles.

And the extra cymbal really adds much more dynamics to the kit. Worth every penny.

Yep, any additional pads you add can only be single zone, and no choking on the cymbal (I've heard). But you can add 4 pads.
