Dirty Little Secrets

Hello my imaginary friends.

What songs are there that you really don't like, perhaps in genres you don't like, where you listen to the drumming and think "Ooooh....I like that!" And then feel a bit dirty, but not in a good way.

As we're among friends here, I'll kick off with this:

To avoid Rick Rolling anybody, it's the Bee Gees "Night Fever". I loathe the cheesy falsetto vocal, I detest the bloaty arrangement, I really don't like disco at all, but I like the drum track. Nothing complex, just enough wrinkles in there to keep it interesting. And for a newb such as I, with less than a year's drumming, it strikes me as a good track to learn to play...and I will.

The youtube version I chose may cause damage to your ears, but damage to your eyes is minimised by my choice of a vid which only has a still of an album sleeve. It's bad enough, but at least there is no backlit, blow dried, shiny, shoulder length Bee Gee coiffure to deal with.

So, just in case this isn't enough to get my posting privileges revoked, what's your Song of Shame?

Oh you're not still trying to get innocent people to listen to this, are you? At least you didn't spring it on anybody, UNLIKE THE LAST TIME!

Fibber.

Umm, "Silver Lady", by David Soul. There, I've said it. I don't feel any better for having "come out" though.

=:-D

Well a person learns who they can and can't trust!

Can't you find it in you to forgive me?

Always thought the BeeGees sure had some kick-ass studio musicians. My bro and sis got 11 copies of Saturday Night Fever for their birthdays in 1978! (16 and 17 yrs old at the time).

I generally don't go for Drum & Bass music (makes me more jittery than a double espresso) but the beats and sounds of JoJo Mayer and Nerve are so damn creative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K117-vPmgtQ

Although I dont understand a word of it and the production quality is sometimes more than a bit lacking, I listen to some Middle Eastern pop/rock (rai) for the cool beats sometimes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6xzgBhCcAA

For the most part,I hate Disco, but the Bee Gees music from Saturday Night Fever rocks.

I'll go away now.:((((

I played The Entertainer (Billy Joel) last night on my Vdrums with my iPod.. That was a blast! Kinda different groove to it, I had never really noticed....

Any and all rap, the more offensive the lyrics the better. All of that music is programmed on a drum machine and some of it has such great feel. More like a lope than a swing to many of the beats (like they drag out the 4 forever). I am a country man otherwise.

I really like jpop songs (japanese pop) like the ones they use for the opening of animes and such, for example I love this song -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ6Nmw5S7HA

I totally get what you mean. I think this is massively awesome too:

And I'm surprised about how many cartoons had pretty hip theme songs (Dutch Language, but I hope people get my point):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwVF90WmbyI Bongorific! And a neat horn section
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xLRsvyNEZ0 (Japanese original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvpG9TVESVU) Love the funky bass

And my old band even covered this one:

Oh well. I guess nostalgia has a hand in it. However, I'm really amazed at how much production effort must have gone into this stuff.

Some of my 'guilty pleasures':

Bee Gees (which doesn't, however, feel guilty at all--I was into them already as an innocent kid)
Opeth
Eros Ramazzotti
Herbert Grönemeyer
Mustasch
Imagination
Depeche Mode
Rammstein
Bløf
Sugababes (some of it)
Turbonegro
Modern Talking (which is as low as I can go)

Otherwise, I'm pretty faithful to the psychedelicstonerdoomsludgefuzzrock genre...
