Default Recording Drum Lessons

I'm wondering what gear people have for recording drum lessons. I don't mean for high quality drum recordings -- just for the purpose of capturing the lesson so as to listen back and review what went on. The Sony tape recorder I currently use is hardly competent; it only captures the big boom of the bass drum, and the cymbals distort heavily and wash over everything else. I think it's meant for vocal recordings.

So I'm looking for something in expensive, portable, and decent enough for this purpose. Any ideas?

I was going to suggest this too. I've heard very good things about the Q3.

I plan on getting one myself pretty soon.

I just picked up the new Zoom H1. Same mics as the big brother Zoom recorders for a 100 bucks. Does wav & mp3 w/ your choice of bit rate. I should have gotten a recorder a long time ago...best thing for practicing alone and/or w/the band.

Any of the Zoom recorders are great. I love the fact that I can take the SD card from the Zoom to my laptop and burn or edit the tracks right away.
