Greetings.
I'm totally new to the "big" drumming. Picked up a djembe 2 years ago, then added brushes to it.. then a hi hat... then drum sticks... then a kick pedal and an electric pad...
As my hobby survived and my friends who play in a band actually started to ask if I brought my djembe along (instead of making nasty faces every time I crash on a gig, *lol*) I've decided to expand and learn an acoustic kit.
So instead of beating the very dead horse and asking "Ugh, so what starter kit should I buy?" I'd like to rephrase it : "If money's not an issue, where would you stop, if you were looking for a 5pc kit?". And I'm not talking about picking up Dragon Signature's just coz you can, but rather about finding the point of the diminishing return, where additional investment into gear do not produce any significant gain to the sound.
I don't want to cheap out, but I don't want to spend any unnecessary money either. I do not plan to play in a band or record myself. Just get down from a tree, pick up a stick and make some noises
If I'm to learn how to play drums I want to enjoy the sound from the day one. I've been playing guitar for a decade and had some piano practice and would like to say that "starter" kits are much harder to start with then any decent stuff. So to speak I'd always pick up a used BMW over new Toyota.
I have a particular used kit in mind which I'm looking at right now, but I'd like to hear some opinions first, If you have a minute to spare.
