What gets me is that she's only eight, and has been playing for six years already.

Are we witnessing the next Buddy Rich...? Imagine what she'll be doing when she's at our (average) ripe old ages!

You know that huge grin she gets as she comes up to a fill and gets to lay it down?

Is it a good or bad thing that I do that in my late 30s?

Bring them to my house and we can shoot them, blow them up, whatever we want. I feel the same way. That girl is amazing.

Ok, there's one for the totally cynical approach.

8 years-old? Pretty damned amazing if you ask me! I wish I could play the bass drum half as good as she does.

Very nice played etc for such a young child, but for some reason i am just not a huge fan of those miracle-children..I am not excluding a jealousy-part here btw..lol..

Plus, bad part for her is kinda that most likely she will be seen the rest of her life as 'being that 8 year old who....', if she would turn into a professional drummer..

Ask Tony Royster Jr. about that..

When I was 8, I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to be able to play "Jessica" with my father's band. It just happened, and I had a lot of fun with it.

That's the good news... but...

By age 14, I was playing bars a couple days a week. By 16, I dropped out to play guitar full time. By 21, I was completely, utterly burnt on the business side of music.

Ultimately, I'm OK with the entire "child virtuoso" thing, but am not OK with the "child virtuoso for money" thing.

Or ask Buddy Rich at age 8 in Vaudeville instead. He turned out OK I think.
How does one know who she will be seen as the rest of her life?
I see what she did as surely exceptional, a total 'natural' if you will, but a miracle? (well miracles don't exist anyway).

I like seeing her sheer unadulterated joy of playing, the heart and soul she puts into it, the accomplishment, the thrill of victory...Like a young Hiromi.

That whole song was an effort of joy for her. She is completely precious.

I think Tony Royster Jr. also turned out pretty ok and i am also not worrying for this girls future..

Fact is that how people start their musical carreer just determines a lot on how they will be seen later on in life..I am not having a judgement about that, is just how things are..For example, artists who start their carreer on a tv talent-show also have to hear all their life about 'being that guy/girl from Idols..or whatever)'..

I think someone like Anika Nilles has proven allready quite some time that she is a lot more then 'just a YT-drummer'..Now, go look the comments about her on this forum..lol..

That's great! I hope she continues to love playing as she gets older - she could be working with a lot of people in the future!
