What he says is so true. I struggle for authenticity, not only in music but in every part of life. In the west it's so easy to build up a ton of filters that interfere with our ability to just let it all hang out. So many rules, so many people who are ready to dump sh
1t on us from a great height for not measuring up to their standards.
Of late I have been getting interested integrating between my musical self and my regular self. To bring those things we drummers aim for in performance - efficient movement, relaxation, listening and attention, team focus, making good choices, creativity etc - to, say, work, socialising, cleaning the house, eating, brushing your teeth, posting on DW, teasing out ingrown hairs, whatever
... to live life well rather than just play music to the best of my ability.
Otherwise my "performances" are just affectation, the difference between keeping fit and holding in your stomach for a photo shoot.
