Evans new Level 360 drum heads

soooo when is this going to be in stores like guitar center?

First, I would review the thread again because this subject (in general) has been discussed and answered.

Second, I just ordered and received from Musician's Friend a 13" coated G2 and a Hazy 300 snare side resonant for my Pork Pie snare. Both have the level 360 logo.

I also recently (2 weeks ago) bought and received from MF a coated 13" Power Center Underside Dot batter for my 13" Mapex bronze

Hopefully that answers the question about current availability and where you could get the Level 360 logoed heads.

+1.........bought a genera HD for my Black Beauty about three - four weeks ago from Musicians Friend................it has the 360 logo also.......................having a harder time tuning this snare than any I've ever had before.

I was hoping the 360 would cure the tuning issues..................doesn't sound bad, but I can't seem to get it right................could just be me.

One word. "Aquarian".

Has anyone bought a drumhead pre-pack and received it with the level 360 logo? I was going to order a set of g2 coated online but so far everyone that has received drumheads with the new logo, they have been drumheads bought separately. Also I called a guitarcenter and they didn't have any pre packs with level 360 logo.

I ordered a pack of G2 10, 12, 14, then a single 8 and 16 from Amazon and I doubt if they are 360 but will know tomorrow. I emailed Amazon to try and get an answer and never heard back. I had no trouble with the original G2 so I will take my chances

Well, this Level 360 stuff might be the real deal.

I've had resonant black heads on all my toms (vintage Tama Superstars) for about a year now, but I recently acquired a new (to me....it's still vintage) 12" tom, so I had to order a resonant black head for it. I saw the Level 360 logo when it arrived, but not knowing anything about it, I assumed it was just some marketing ploy or whatever and didn't give it much more thought.

Yesterday I put the Level 360 reso on the 12" and also changed out the batter head on that one, as well as my 3 other toms, to Remo Emperors. So...same head combo on all drums, except the 12" has a 360 reso and the rest of the toms have the old non-360 resos.

With minimal work, the 12" immediately sounded like it had been tuned by gods. The rest of the toms sounded good, but VERY different from the 12"....like a completely different line of drums. The 12 sounded super focused with no "off" overtones at all, almost as if I added a moon gel to it...only better. The rest of the toms sounded...well...not like that.

Remember: I still had NO idea what the Level 360 thing was all about.

I actually thought there must be something different about my new tom (I suppose there still could be...guess I won't know for sure until I get the exact same head combo on all of 'em). I tried tuning the others to match, but never got them quite there. It wasn't until now that I remembered the Level 360 logo and wondered if that's the reason the 12 sounds so noticeably different. Searched the 'net, saw the Evans site, then came here.

If that IS the reason, then WOW...I'm impressed. Now I just gotta do some more testing to make sure this is actually the case before dropping the cash on all new resos to match.

I just received my 10, 12, 14 pack of G2 coated from Amazon.com, along with a single 8 and the 16 will be here tomorrow. I took off the previous heads and put these on in less than 45 minutes and that was with the resos being changed as well. In fact I decided to try something different . The previous batter heads were Evans Strata 1000, and I made those my newest reso heads. I was afraid they may sound dead but on the contrary the Gretsch Renowns just kept singing. The Strata are a 10 mill single ply head and all sounds good. I had been using G1 clears. The 360 series was also 22.00 cheaper from Amazon than MusiciansFriend. I got 5 heads for 48.00.

The whole pack came with the 360 series, the single 8 came with the 360, but the 16 did not. The 16 is not a problem as the material is the same and tunes very low for the sound I like

I just got a new Evans 12" Black Chrome head. It looks exactly like the older Evans heads, the collar doesn't look steep like the graphic on the Evans site and there is no Level 360 logo on it.
But according to the webshop, all the Evans heads they have in stock are the new design.

Maybe anyone can post a closeup picture of the new collar/rim on a Level 360 head to compare?

Many thanks, Eric

As was mentioned in the thread earlier someone else ordered from the Evans site but the order was filled by another drum shop close to him and they sold him new-old stock. sounds like you got the same deal. The heads do not come from Evans directly

Yeah, I understand. I got the head from Thomann.de, a large European (online) seller. They have a large stock but they also sell a lot so I wouldn't know what their in-out speed is, so if they are selling old or new heads.

So you're saying it is obvious to see the difference between an old and a new head?
Is there a way to make sure?

I got this reply from Thomann.de:

Since September 2012 Evans is producing those 360 heads.
Until March 2013 year there´s no logo on them.
To make sure that you have a 360 head please have a look at the rim of the head.
There you can see the date of manufacturing.
If there stand as an example 12J... on the rim it means the Year 2012 and the month October (J, the 10th in alphabetic order).

Hey Eric, I actually bought a set of G plus recently, from Thomann as well. Yes, it's quite easy to see the difference, the Level 360 heads have a sharper bend at the top of the collar, then it's the steep part, and then there's a slight bend outwards, while the old ones just have the bend at the top, and then straight all the way to the rim. My 8", 10", 14" and 16" are the old design, but the coated snare head and the 12" had the steep collar, no 360 logo though. However, they all fit perfectly, and were very easy to tune up. I don't know if I can distiguish any difference in sound, would be nice to check with two identical drums. One thing I do know, is that they all fit better than all the Remo heads I have... But I do have some abnormaly large-for-their-size Sonors, Evans seems to be my head of choice.

So if Thomann claims they only sell only new heads, that's bullshit. Which is strange, because I've received nothing but perfect service from them.

Well, does your head fit nicely? Is it easy to tune? Does it sound great? I bet it does. Enjoy! :)

Hey, thanks for your reply. I don't know how many heads they have in stock but it must be a huge amount so I don't think they've checked every head when they made that claim.

About thead: actually, it sounds good but I noticed the welt of the rim is not perfect, on side is 1 or 2 mm ( .05" ) higher than the other. In fact, that got me to look if it is a level 360 head or not. I'll check the manufacturing date when I get home.

Is the level 360 really new?

I bought a new evans onyx head recently and it had the level 360 thing printed on it but looked similar to an onyx I already had. I ask the GC rep if the collar was really new and he said they had it on some of there heads since 2011 and that they just re-marketed it. I do not have the old to compare it to. I was wondering if anyone knew if they had this collar before on some heads and just did not market it?

That's a fact. Look at this thread and you see that EvansSpecialist confirmed it: http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103197&highlight=level

We've been working on what became our Level 360 collar for quite some time. The new collar design as we know it has been in production since September of 2012 on sizes 6-16"
