I am the production manager for a Performing Arts Center north of Boston. We rent drums for many shows (mostly jazz, world, folk, acoustic styles). I need to put together a small kit of tools and parts to cover emergency needs on my rental gear. I know I need a drum key, a key for latin percussion (is there more than 1?) a hi-hat clutch, cymbal felts, and wing nuts. I've needed all those things in the last year and not had them. Could you help me out with a list of "must have" tools and parts for a drum kit and for latin percussion? Thanks! David |

Assuming you also have the other obvious elements: spare drum heads, maybe a spare pedal or some pedal parts such as a spring and a few nuts and bolts and of course, duct tape. Also try searching the internet for "drummers survival kit" for more ideas.

A set of allen wrenches, both metric and standard, springs for a Bass drum pedal,if you can take a pedal with you to a hardware store you can match them up by sight and tension cost about 2.00.A leatherman tool will do almost every thing you need in a pinch. An electric drill or screwdriver with an attachment Drum key would facilitate quick head changes.spare 14 " snare drum batter heads.A spare drum pedal and a spare snare drum would be nice.

Maybe a drum key bit on an electric screw driver for quick changes.Spare heads definitely. The other stuff mentioned pretty much covers it.
