Whats the deal with Glam Metal

Wow, The Healer is great ... that slow, bluesy, greasy groove like Simon Kirke in Free. This thread's been a revelation.

I wonder if they feel a bit embarrassed now to look back on these old clips? The hair styles and the poses - laughable. If they don't see the absurdity of it then they must be very interesting people :)

How about this? You could just about close your eyes and imagine it's Deep Purple sans Jon Lord, and Mick Tucker's on fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFYZOZ_95yk

Bay City Rollers, lol, not my cup of tea, but they're Glam alright, they fit the bill as far as genre is concerned ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHDCJVoObGE&feature=related

Another artist that's a bit of fun to watch, very glam indeed :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hPoOOhXg-k&feature=related
OMG! Two poriah acts in one post.

Sorry Henri, the Bay City Rollers were a 70's "boy band", pure & simple. No rock credentials whatsoever.

As for the now unmentionable GG, I know the band sax player very well, & he's still gigging (he's very good), but any mention of GG is now as good as banned in the UK, & quite rightly so.

Look, I'm a bit ambivalent about Gary Glitter. Before he was found to be a sociopath (broadly speaking) I was a huge fan. So, yes, it's tainted things for me but it was still awesome bubblegum, especially with the double drummers, copied by Adam Ant.

As for the Bay City Rollers, they just about started the rot along with Bananarama's crucifixion of Venus, a great old bluesy number by Shocking Blue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LhkyyCvUHk.

haha, great track, & yes, those DM toting bimbos ruined a good vibe, but doesn't this lead singer remind you of a Gerry Anderson puppet?

Had to Google her ... but yes :)

Agree about the drum solo too - nothing there for me either. Surprised that such a strong drummer could play like that, actually. Guess it was an off day. Rotten luck having that one captured for posterity.

Some may not agree but early Queen were glam metal. I saw this clip on TV and became an instant fanatic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU7rqB9E_0M

I was in my teens and early 20s when hair metal was king. I loved some of it, hated some of it.
