To our dear friends around the world:

We are heartbroken to share the news with you that Vic has passed away.
Vic was an inspiration to all of us. He was a visionary, a mentor, a leader and a friend. He always said he surrounded himself with the best people, but the truth is he brought out the best in all of us. His boundless passion for music and musicians drove every decision he made.

Vic’s spirit and legacy will continue to live at the core of the Vic Firth Company. He will be missed beyond words.

The passing of another Titan. RIP Vic! He plays tympani at the gates now :(

Really sad about this, an absolute icon and game changer.

RIP Vic. Long will his memory live on.

As a new drummer I know nothing about Vic, other than the fact I'm using his sticks. For this I thank you Vic. May you rest in peace.

Sad news. We've lost so many of the titans of that era in the last few years.

RIP, Vic Firth.

aw naw. First sticks I ever bought were Vics, first percussion item I bought were Vic mallets. Rest well and enjoy whatever might be beyond!

Vic Firth - our mentor, father, friend, ambassador of drums and percussion: R.I.P.

Oh no!
I remember watching him play Timpani with the B.S.O. back in the 70's. A master musician and Captain of industry.

Really sad to hear. I met him twice, and I liked him very much.

Rest in peace Vic.

Right on!

I had met Vic at contest in Enid, Oklahoma when I was 14 as he was my judge and met him at some of the NAMM shows later in life. He was also kind enough to talk to me in 2005 over the telephone while I was working on the Retroplate as I called him asking for advice on developing a product.

He was a true visionary and always a gentleman!

Talk about a cat who knew a thing or two about how to make one hell of a life for yourself.

I remember playing several of his percussion compositions in middle and high school.

Nice tribute to him today on the company's homepage.

Before I played drums, I bought a Vic Firth pepper mill (which I still use to this day). When I started playing drums the first sticks I bought were Vic Firth 5As. First thing I thought of when buying sticks was "Vic Firth." I then tried various other brands, but frankly nothing felt as good as Vic Firth sticks. I use 5B Extremes for rock, Tim Genis sigs for concert band, and AJ3s and Heritage Brushes for jazz. Absolutely perfect for me. He left a good legacy as both a percussionist as well as a businessman who made an incredibly good product.
