Oldest picture I have, it's from the very early 80's... a Tama Imperialstar with double bass drums, my first "expensive" kit, I think I was 22 or 23 years old.

Era 1972-75
First set. It was a 1957 Slingerland set. 20" bass, 12" & 14" toms.
I canabalized it with at 14" concert tom as a ride around 1974.

Hehehe... is this thread is for all the oldish members?

You don't need to be that old to upload some pics from the memory lane :)

First of all: Your dad looks cool as all!!!

Secondly: You were in a band called the Zeppelins in 1966? What did you do when Led Zep came around? You couldn't exactly go around with that name still, or could you?

Wouldn't be that one. That snare looks like white ceramic coating and it doesn't have a center bead.

Loving this thread so much. I love old pictures of people, expecially of musicians.

Zikos, what year was that taken? Love the matching jackets, no joke.

Jim, I love that old pic of your dad. Did he live in Arizona in his heyday? Do you still play with trad grip?

Henry, I was looking through this thread with my fiance and we both agreed that you look like a young Jagger.

Yeah, we were The Zeppelins from about 1964 to 1968. Yes when Led Zeppelin came out our band name became worthless..........

I guess you could always say you were the original Zep drummer :)

No. I rebuild and modified my Dad's 1928 Ludwig Super.

My Dad lived in Oakland, Ca. until 1944. Then he moved to Hollywood, Ca. for the drumming career opportunities. He was in big bands, movies and TV shows.

Yes, I have always played traditional grip. Still do. But I wish I had learned matched grip.

The tape is probably the only thing in that photo that you should still have...except the drums of course.

Love the hair... The sweater really gives away the decade too.

Somewhere around 1963 on my parents back porch. Can you see the Beatles influence?

My father in-law does the exact same thing. Sweet fro' BTW.

Just noticed that we have 4 drummers from AZ posting in this thread. Anyone else thinkin' that I'm thinkin'? We should have our own Southwest meetup. Forger those eastcoasters and their Guru drums and those LA cats with their NAMM. We should all meet up for tacos and beer, maybe go drop in on Jim and his band's open mic night.

First snare (far left) added to first kit, 1983, age 10. Interesting snare placement. My style hasn't changed much, though.

Here's a band I was in in 1991. The drums were a house kit I played on at the time, with 24" kicks and 13/14/18 toms. Also LM400 snares. We won a battle of the bands this day, if I remember correctly.

Some cool pictures being shared.

For whatever reason I have nothing on photo until about 1985 that I can find. That leaves about a 9 year gap from when it all began.

But before me, here's some of my Dad as a kid playing with some other family members around 1941 and in the army in the 1950's...

Attachment 59539

Attachment 59538

This is from around 1985 on some cheapie Tama Swingstars
Attachment 59544

This is from around 1988 on my Gretsch Broadcasters
Attachment 59543

This is from around 1989 in a studio with Recording Customs
