Little noises someone's making on dvds

So, as a part of my continuing discovery of jazz (aided hugely by drummerworld), I recently bought 3 DVDs from the "Icons of Jazz" series, which consist of performances by some of the most well known musicians of that style from '50 to '70. They're the editions dedicated to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, John Coltrane, and the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Anyway, I've noticed that in all of them you hear someone making assorted noises, grunts, and skip-da-di-do-dah's throughout the performances on all 3 of the DVDs. Who is this person?? So far, I've been unable to identify the guilty parties, but let me tell you, it sounds really cool, 'cause I can hear the tune or ideas through the solos, making it easier to understand them. Have you guys noticed this? Who's doing it? The soloist? Someone not playing? Someone in the audience??
