Default How can I improve recording?

I recently recorded and uploaded a video of me drumming to YouTube. The problem is the quality at which the video comes out, I'm only using an iPod 4 which has a tiny microphone and struggles recording the drums and especially the cymbals which cause lots of distortion. Is there anybody who knows how I can improve the sound of the drums without splashing out on loads of hugely expensive drum mics and software? Below is the video so you can identify any specific problems in the recording, thanks :)

You can buy a Zoom Q3HD for about $250-$300. It's a video camera with a stereo pair of mic designed for recording music. Zoom also sells the H4n which is just the audio recorder standalone.

It's not as bad as some I've heard. I believe that you have two problems. One is the acoustics of the room and the second is that your iPod 4 isn't designed for that intensity of sound.

A Zoom would be your best option if you want to record rehearsals and drum practices. The HD model is $250-300 and the regular model is around $120. Such a handy little tool.

I've had a look at some reviews and videos of the Zoom and the audio is said to be excellent so thanks for the feedback! Also, as "audiotech" mentioned, my acoustics in the room are not great and all walls are bare plasterboard with no acoustic control so does anybody have any ideas on that? Again, I don't really have the money to go and buy a load of professional acoustic foam etc. so I'm looking for cheap but effective alternatives. Thanks again :)

The poor little ipod mic just can't take the volume. There's nothing you can do about it except maybe shoot your video through a window to attenuate the volume. I know; I've tried.
