Default I know I'm in a minority, but ... (Eurovision Song Contest related)

... surely SOMEBODY else is watching Eurovision?

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.

When I lived in England I loved Eurovision. I wish we could get it in the states.

You're missing a CORKER.

Can't you stream it? :/

I'm voting for Greece this year. Not least because the lead singer's name is Agathon, and one of my other internet persona's name is Agatha. You can't fault the logic.

I actually saw 15 seconds of song number 2. I thought I was watching a bad candidate on Idols so I decided to go to bed early.

Usually I tend to watch the Eurovision contest. Not that I'm a big fan of that thing but most of the time a handful of songs are really decent or have at least some very nice melodies and/or rhythmic ideas - sometimes spoiled by the overly catchy arrangement but the quality of substance is evident anyway, at least to my ears. Some of those songs might stick in my ears for a good while. When I was watching that contest in the past I'd have my electric guitar around and jam along to the songs, just improvising (rather: noodling). For the last few years this has been replaced by hitting my pads (and even a regular drumkit, now that I have one).

Yesterday I was going to watch the Eurovision contest but it didn't happen, I visited a friend and we went to have a drink (that is, I had mineral water as always). I returned home early enough to watch Denmark being proclaimed as the winner song, plus another performance of that tune. A few hours earlier I wished Jaap Ruisch (working with drum company Majestic, if not a senior) on facebook some luck for the competition, haha. And that song made it! I have no regret on Germany's song scoring a low position.

At the conservatory I study, an ESC-party is arranged every year. The cantina is transformed into a ballroom, the broadcast is projected on a big projection screen, about 20 pizzas are ordered, people bring drinks and fantastic mood and we drink, celebrate and cheer for every modulation! :-D Also a band is put together for the occasion, they rehearse a compilation of earlier ESC-hits and play 2 sets with everyone dancing and singing like there's no tomorrow. Fantastic, awesome, great fun! :-)

Am I watching?

Dude it's an annual event in our house. We have score cards and drinks and make an evening of it. The standard is unfortunately much higher than it used to be and so the entertainment level has reduced. No matter we love Sweden, the hosts, taking the Mickey out of themselves plus the Greek entry was the only old-fashioned silly song of the lot!

Great times.

I'm very glad I was down the pub. Again.

I seem to be making a habit of that.

That sounds brilliant! My daughter went to a Eurovision party last night. I'm not exactly sure which country she got in the sweepstake, but she had her hair in plaits and wore a red checked shirt. Russian lumberjack, possibly?

Alas, this is true. I am however reminded of a duo encountered by some friends whilst on holiday in Croatia a number of years ago who, armed only with a Bontempi organ and frilly sleeves, performed Abba hits in the hotel and received standing ovations from the British contingent after every song. I so wish I'd been there.

No gig last night so I watched it with the Mrs! We have a real laugh with it, although it wasn't as cheesey as in some previous years. We keep a note of all the entries and our favourites too... all part of the fun!!

Shame the drummers are always miming in that overblown way they always do (why move your hands when you can move your whole arm?!), but there are always quite a few stunning girls on there which is about as good as entertainment gets on Saturday night TV these days.

Watched it last night. The standard of songs was pretty good this year. Ireland were hard done by, didn't deserve to come last. Denmark were worthy winners.

This brings back memories. As a kid growing up in Turkey, Eurovision song contest was one of my favorite things on TV - I looked forward to it every year. The first one I ever watched was in 1974 when ABBA won it (yes, I am old). After that I watched it every year until 1984 when I moved to USA where nobody knows about it or cares. To be honest, I don't think I could sit through the type of pop music that is on it now, but I still cherish the memories of it.

I'm disappointed every time a song without any modulation wins the ESC :p
