Default Equinox

I am playing equinox with a group and we are doing the lat-ish intro that is on the Coltrane version. I am not quite sure what to play for this. Any advice?

Default Re: Equinox

One of my favorite of the classic jazz tunes . . . and one of my favorite Coltrane recordings.

Think of this intro in triplet and 16th note triplet subdivisions. Keep that feeling pumping through your brain. Then, improvise how you like. Personally, I would try using an open snare, like in the original recording, keeping most of the phrasing between the snare and the bass drum, accenting with the piano (lightly) on the cymbals. I would also play in both straight triplet and swung triplet feels.
