Love Joe

Never lost the sense of 5 throughout his solo, which is the trick.

And goes to show even the best in the business drop a stick. Have to say seeing him keep his composure when he lost it went for another and pulled out a mallet tossed it aside and ended up with another mallet before he got his stick, he just kept on going with no sign of panic.

JOE MORELLO was astonishing to watch, and to listen to. His technique was years ahead of its' time, and his musicality was developed unlike anyone elses. Check out the solo on "Castillian Drums" on the Brubeck cd "Carnegie Hall" for one of the best jazz drum solos ever recorded. On that same cd, check out a song called "Bossa Nova USA" and you'll hear Joe play the bossa nova ostinado entirely with his left hand with all the eighth notes, and all the accents in perfect place. He was a true legend.....

Fun video great drummer, that I've heard about but never really saw video in my few years of drumming?

Actually a bigger thanks for putting me on to

Joe Morello: Drum Method 1 -The Natural Approach to Technique
Joe Morello: Drum Method 2 -- Around the Kit

in the recommended section of that video.

Feels like I found the Holy Grail and think every drummer should checklist his way through these exercises.

In other video's when he was younger he would keep playing with is left hand while adjusting his cymbal stand (why would he have a mallet?), Budy Rich said that in those battle of the bands with Gene Krupa that he would pretend to be adjusting his bass pedal while playing. Just saying...still he was one of the very best and I have had a fondness for that album since I was 6 yeras old.
