Default New bass drum mic setup, thanks to BGH

In the thread about my new Ludwigs, I talked about porting the reso head to get the mic inside, even though I like the sound and feel of an unported head. Member BGH suggested just putting a small hole through the head to run the cable inside and mounting the mic inside. I just did that, and it works great! I used the clear head that came as a batter head since I had already ported the white Ludwig logo reso head. I'll have to order a new one next time I stock up on heads. I used a bit of weather strip foam around the cable where it passes through the head.

I'll post a pic - sorry for all the reflections in the head, but hopefully you can see the setup.

It's mounted on a Kelly Shoe. I had it mounted in my old bass drum with a hole drilled through the shell to admit the cable. I didn't want to drill the new Ludwig, though. That was why I tried BGH's suggestion. Like I said, it works great and the drum sounds like the head is slightly muffled but unported.
