Default My new music room

It's finally starting to come together. Working on wiring up the outboard stuff to the new ProTools 9 system wrapped around the M-Audio ProjectMix. On the agenda are a pair of GAP Pre73s, some Apex 205 ribbon mics (these make great overheads for a fuller old school sound) and maybe some nice primary vocal mic instead of the CAD M177 I've had for years.

Here is the drum end of things with my Renowns sitting there:

Like Brundlefly, I've put up a blog showing the construction.

http://buildingslmstudio.blogspot.com/

The whole thing was done by my wife and I. She was a great help mixing concrete and stucco, dealing with all the dust and mess, and an extra pair of hands for things like tilting up the frame or handing up roofing.

For those who think that carpet on the walls is all it takes, this is another example of what it really takes. Playing inside at 95-100 dB, it is about 50-55 dB outside, except around the door where it's more like 60 dB (using my Phonic PAA-3 RTA). As Rod Gervais says in his book, the door takes as much effort as the rest of the thing. Double stud walls are easy compared to putting up a door with sheet lead surrounded by layers of wood and Hardi-board, and then sealing the thing.

Woot! And grats! Those are some very familiar looking images. Excellent job on that. Looks very well done.
