Default Coming back to drums after two years

A few things I realized:

- I lost a lot of hand technique (doubles, etc) but I'm surprised that I managed to keep as much balance/coordination as I did. Guess it really is like riding a bike.
- Just like guitarists building up calluses, I have to power through the finger tingles and wrist pain that comes from driving the high hats
- Drums are freaking loud
- It's really embarrassing to play a loud instrument at less than your best

My fingers do not tingle or hurt when I play drums. Never have. You might have some nerve or nephropathy issue and I encourage you to examine technique and position at the drums.

Sounds like maybe its the effect of muscling through parts that you once had the technique to do properly? Im sure that technique will come back, dont muscle too hard, Ive caused myself some discomfort doing this. Just a thought

I can certainly relate, having come back to playing after a long absence,..what I learned was keep it simple, build back that muscle memory,

The one thing that I've had to come to grips with; my 59 year old self isn't able to do some of the things my 20 year old self was able to do, but what Ive lost in speed & stamina, I've made up for in feel..

Keep an eye on your technique, drumming should never hurt :)

You'll get back to your best before long, cobwebs don't take long to dust off.

Welcome back to the tubs!

Dig up some of your old sticking and foot coordination books. If you don't have any, get some. ;)
