Piccolo's struggle with shell tone, there simply isn't a lot of surface area to work with, so with Joe's build, we concentrated on getting a resonating mass into the mix via generous bearing edge contact area. Bubinga responds very well to such a construction, but benefitted from a little midrange lift with the maple inserts. Shells of 5" & deeper are so much easier to augment. As Joe mentions, his piccolo goes low, & with credibility. Not an easy thing to do with such a shallow shell.

How the hell do you figure all of this out?????do you have a 40 foot pile of "that didn't work" shells?? I want that damn green guru snare but will it replace my 6.5x14 supralite??

Sometimes we get it wrong, but not often. If we do screw up, it never leaves the shop! We design drums by applying construction & species theory that we've tested out ourselves. We pay little attention to what others do (although we admire the work of others), instead, we put the design basics applied by others to the test. Sometimes there's truth in the "rules", sometimes not. Our biggest usp is being able to use a range of construction methods to get the best out of a given wood species. Not all woods behave in the same way, & using solid shell constructions allows us to marry inherent characteristics with the specific behaviour of a given species.

Will that green steam bent cherry replace your supralite? Probably not, but the cherry drum will do stuff the supralite can't, & visa versa.

Brilliant idea! Andy, you could offer a whole range of affordably-priced merchandise. I'll have a baseball cap, please.

If it was Guru Merchandise, it would be of the highest quality, & therefore probably not be the cheapest.

Given the amount of toms & bass drums you have, you're clearly short of snare drums. I'm sure your wife would see the rationale behind that ;) ;) ;)

Anyhow, sell the Rototoms - I mean, who uses them anyhow? ;)

Ooops, I forgot, Mary wants some :)

I'm sure Andy could do a nice trade-in of all your stuff for a nice Guru shirt :)

Yes, Mary, I had a great great time with Andy & Yvonne, it's highly recommended, but not if you're on a diet :)

Quality it is then! Do I include some classy design like twin beer can holders & a flexible hose, or should we go for subtle?

I think what's required Andy is a top hat with beer holders. That would satisfy most requirements.

Never go for subtle. If you do something...do it all the way! I say twin beer can holders, a flexible hose and a spinner on top just for fun. I'm sure she'll love it! :)
