![]() I'm glad to see more attention in the drumming world being given to early rhythm 'n' blues music. The music is groove focused, but often overlooked because it occupies a niche between jazz and rock/pop. First and foremost I love listening to it,but especially when great players like Earl Palmer play it with great skill, creativity, execution, and a New Orleans influence. I have included Stickings which are based of my personal attempts and knowing that Earl Palmer himself stated he pretty much just used single stroke roll most the time for fills. I have Part two lying around somewhere handwritten, and may update this post later with the second part to his Drum Village, when I get around to putting it into Finale. Enjoy! Just go to the link and download the Pdf http://www.mattsdrumlessons.com.au/d...llage-part-one

Here is a nice video summarizing his career that I found very interesting and informative. Matthew, thanks for your post. I must admit I knew of Earl but had not realized the extent of his contributions.

Thanks for that. If you enjoyed that (like I did too) I recommend his biography: Back beat.
Seriously interesting read on a great drummer who had an amazing experience of life!

Cool to see some Earl Palmer fans!
Anyone familiar with Jim Sullivan's overlooked/lost gem, U.F.O.? I love that album, and Earl's drumming on it, is superb, in my opinion. |
