27 Years old. I was playing music in a rock band for a living. playing some of the large St. Louis night clubs, out on the road playing road house bars. Loved every minute of it and would go back there at the drop of a hat if I could

I'm going on 46 this year-- when I was 23 I was doing a five month run on a Carnival ship-- the first and last time I ever worked for them. Oh, and I was getting yelled at by my brother for turning down a circus gig-- something like eight weeks of touring places like Moose Jaw, Medicine Hat, etc, which left the week after I got home from working the ship. I was also doing a lot of painting.

Half a lifetime ago I was working for Uncle Sam's Air Force, flying jets and sitting on Nuclear Alert (it's where I get my paranoia from :) I Finished my Master's Degree at Indiana University, and my first wife divorced me. It's an ocupational hazard, but that one hurt. If I only knew then what I know now..... On the super plus side I made two of my best ever life long friends that year. Like cymbals, you can never have enough.

Great thread! If only we could time travel back and have a little chat with our younger selves.....
Half my lifetime ago I was 28, making my living singing and playing guitar in a band at night while writing songs and being partners in a recording studio during the day. (I had taken up drums at age 10 and started playing them professionally at 18). I had only played guitar for five years by then. I still gigged as a drummer occasionally, but, in fact, probably didn't even own a kit in those days.
I think I was dating our booking agent at that time (yeah, I know.......) I was a year away from meeting my first wife and getting my "big break" as a solo artist. I wouldn't have guessed then that I'd be back playing the drums- and loving it!- at this point in my life.

At 14 I was entering a dark and gloomy adolescence. I hated school. (and then I hated uni, and now work for that matter lol)

I'd only been playing drums for about a year. At that point I abandoned piano and trumpet.

At half my age I was still pretty old, lol. I was thirty and working full time as a director/producer at an independent television station. Part time I was on the air at an FM radio station. I also worked as a sound engineer, did voice over and commercial work and gigged. Both me and my girlfriend were also heavily into hand gun target shooting.

I just started at Berklee in Boston. I was playing in this band that played 2-4 days a week (THUR-SUN) somewhere between DC and NH while I was attending classes. We were pretty terrible, but we had a lot of fun. I actually thought I was a pretty good drummer until I went to school and people like Abe Laborial Jr. and Tom Polce were there to humble me.
