Yeah Purdie would often play an 18 in kick-and have tom backwards to most. But I swear it looks more like a 16 in-must just be the angle and he's a pretty big dude. He's the man though-you can recognize his "touch" on many a classic song.

I just don't get an 18" kick drum. I want an 18" floor tom.

20" is as small as I'd ever wanna go.

Oh Master Blaster I have a Sonor Safari with a 16 in kick-and it's a lil cannon. Not trying to hi jack the thread but this is about 60 sec of some Red Hot Chili's and the 16 in clearly has some punch but has some tone too (I recorded this with my Zoom Q2HD video recorder and its internal mic). I bet an 18 in would just be perfect, but I see why people like the 20 in (and I'm playing a 24 in now). But small kick are awesome dude.

You weren't lying, it sounds like it can do the job! I guess if I wanted the smallest kit possible for packing around, I'd give an 18 a shot!

Is yours square? 18 x 18? Do they even make them like that?

My Safari is 16X16 but I'd like to try a 18X14 kick.

I guess I was jaded against small kicks after buying this and being disappointed. After about a month I ordered my current kit and sold that tiny thing.
