Bass drum head advice

I play in a Motown/soul tribute, so I'm looking to recreate that sort of sound. I'm thinking Powerstroke 3 batter, Fiberskyn reso. Anyone tried this combination, and if so do you have any thoughts on it? Anyone have any other suggestions.

Great music have fun!!

Back then they used Coated Emp or Coated Ambassador heads, and stuffed the bass drum. A lot of times/most time had no front head for recording.

Check out some pics from that era.

If you go for a PS3, I'd definitely use a Coated and not a clear.
Fiberskyn Ambassador should be fine, but an Ambassador smooth or coated would be more accurate a sound.

14x20, or 14x22" bass drums were the common size back then.

Just my 2 cents.

Have a great time with the band!

Anyone tried this combination,

Yeah, my current set up is a clear PS3 batter and a Fiberskyn PS3 reso. I've been happy with that combo. I've used PS3's as batter and reso for years and opted for the fiberskyn model last head change.

Otherwise a regular Ambassador and a felt strip will do the trick.
