snare wire set for jazz?

I have a 6 ply maple 14x5 snare that I want to use mostly for jazz. I will put a coated ambassador on it, but wonder what would work best for a snare wire set. Should I just use a standard 20 wire, or go for a 30 or 42 wire set for the best articulation and sensitivity at lower volumes?

I would go for less wires to get more tone out of the drum. And in the old days they didn't have super wide snares either, if you're aiming for that old school vibe.

Some feel the wires don't play that big of role. In my own experimenting I happen to have my own personal favorite. Canopus unplated vintage are best for me. Love them in combination of specific heads as well. Together they give me the sound and response I hear in my head that I want the drum to produce.

in the 1960s Gretsch snare drums came stock with 42 strand wires
