Default The rhythm thread

Would it not be cool if we had a list of every rhythm known to man in one thread? With classic examples of that rhythm instantly listenable in the form of YouTube vids?

The Quintessential Texas Shuffle: ZZ Top's "La Grange"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vppbdf-qtGU

Thank you.

Cool idea- this could be addictive- here's Vernel Fournier's Poinciana groove.

OK, one more: a basic (and killing) second line, from Hey Pocky A-Way.

Surf beat

Reverse surf beat

Train beat

Great idea Larry.

Here's a couple to start off with;

The Dennis Chambers shuffle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_n8cb6Op1g I've used this as a basis for putting together some of my own groove ideas. Challenging left hand lead (at least, challenging for me)

No idea what this groove's called, but I do love it. I used this as the basis for a cool 16th groove of my own (I seem to be getting into the habit of stealing groove ideas, then putting my own spin on them so I can play them with a much lower skill level. I think the correct term is a "cop out"!) http://www.youtube.com/user/XXXXKISX.../1/VX080x8btzc

Are we talking about rhythms or classic grooves here?

I have one, it gets called the stomp beat around here. Four on the floor, quarter note crash, tempos of at least 120. Hit it hard

starting at about 1:46 - The Bronx - Cobra Lucha

Elvin Afro 3/4

I don't think the Compared To What groove has a name- I call it the Eddie Harris groove.

The backwards Sunshine of Your Love beat.

Hahaha I love that vid. Superb drumming, and the happiness that he feels when playing is so authentic that's inspiring.

Cheers!

Hey 8mile, sorry, just had to go the extra mile for this example. Simon carrying on Billy's vibe with the same groove, but in a very different setting (from 2:00 onwards, but listen to the whole piece)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGigDxMg7uY

Just a bit of Andy thought; this is Simon at his very best IMO. The gig & association that lined him up for the Todo gig after Jeff's tragic death. Anyhow, catch those lovely tom routines in the guitar riff section, & the wonderful dynamic at the end of the keys solo. There's a part 2 on the tube too.

Sorry, as you were.

KIS, that's a great clip. First time I've seen it. Actually, I almost picked Simon's own Space Boogie as my example but defaulted to Billy because his came first.

I don't know what to call it, but I see it a lot in Mycymbal.com videos. I just love playing variations of it.

Beat starts at :45

What a wonderful, filthy trashy ride cymbal ... anyway, that rhythm sounds like a variation on what I've heard referred to as a bongo beat.

Here's the David Holmes 12/8, with a 16th note triplet in the middle of the beat.

One example of what they call the ECM feel.
