Ok so I'm not sure of other drummers do this. Basically I'll practice a beat on drums and I can only play it really slow. Then I give up and come back the next day and I can play it at full speed?
Hence the reason bad habits are hard to break. They are totaly embeded over a period of ime doing them. You can concentrate on staying away from bad habits but they seem to always creep back in sometimes when your not thinking about it.

..............Learned
Yes, that's how I'm learning these rudiments I'll never really use but feel it's necessary to know.
One beat that has been plaguing me is the one in the song Sober by Tool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqmRDV0a_70
For some reason I just can't get the syncopation between the hi-hat groove and the bass drum pattern. I almost have it, but I just can't seem to get it smoothed out and comfortable. It's always a chore. Maybe I should try this trick with this beat because this beat is a benchmark that I set in my mind to achieve.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/learnt
"Learnt" is more common in the UK (where I am). To me, "learned" feels similar to "teached" or "sleeped" (except in certain circumstances, like "my learned friend"), so I tend to use "learnt".

Or are you saying you already know what to do, just struggling with the execution?
