yesdog, if you've had a masterclass with phillips, you can upgrade your status to deputy dog, that's for sure. i'm with kis and everyone else on this.(for a while there, about a year ago, i was starting to wonder if kis actually was secretly phillips!!)
but because i originally came from more of a rock background than jazz, i say that if there ever was a rock-jazz fusion drummer(emphasizing the 'rock' part first)- it is simon phillips. he rocks first and asks questions later.
if you haven't heard 'give blood' by pete townsend, can i suggest you put it on the studio monitors? the music intro can barely be heard til 20 seconds in, so don't worry. after that, it's a mind-blower!
