http://www.guitarcenter.com/Sabian-B8-Performance-Cymbal-Pack-with-Free-Crash-104482070-i1322161.gc

others give your input, i dont want him doing it cause i said and make a wrong decision, but IMO, this is what id do..

Alex

Everyone hates on B8's because there garbage. You'd be better off with something like this http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Paiste-PST-5-Universal-Cymbal-Set-141620?sku=447570

Well, the Sonor 3007 is sold. So here's the deal. I can buy this Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage set today for $850 delivered and set up in my home. My question is, would you go for it? Is this a set that if I sell it later I won't lose much money on? Thank you very much.

Yes, but I don't think this set has B8's on it. And by the way, this kit only has about 10 hours of play on it according to the owner.

I would appreciate any input on this set considering the price I can get it at. Thank you.

The XS 20’s are a nice step up from the B8’s. At this level they start to sound like real cymbals! LOL

I can’t comment on the drums as I have never heard them but generally Yamaha is well built, great sounding and killer hardware.

Your best deal is still the Gretsch, IMO. Fo cheap cymbals, I fiddled with a pair of Dream Bliss hats, and they were very good, the rides were pretty OK as well, but the hats stood out. Dream and Saluda offer great value. I'm not big on B8s or XS 20s, I'd consider them tolerable.

I'd opt for the Gretsch Renown, of all the choices. You can always swap out the kick drum and/or buy a second larger kick, at a later point. My buddy plays church gigs, etc. with his Sonor Jungle kit, no problem. All the "rest" of the kits, unless I missed one, are kits you'd want to move on. The Renown is a kit you just might want to hang onto for life. If at a later point, you want/need bigger drums, just watch eBay. A matching 22" kick or 16" floor is bound to turn up. Then you wind up owning a "drum system" rather than just a "drum kit". I have two kicks, 22x14 and 26x14. Two racks, 12x8 and 13x9. And two floors, 16x16 and 18x16. 6 drums for all occasions.

Well, you can go with this kit (which is amazing) and go to http://www.virtualcymbals.com and look at the dream bliss line of cymbals and get something that is better than B8's go check out the sound clips...GOOD LUCK

Really? How do you explain Paiste Cymbals?

I use 2oo2 hihats which are B8, and they sound better than any B20 hi hats I've ever heard. The same goes with my 20" Giant Beat Crash and 24" ride

Please keep in mind that I've never played the drums before. At this point with what's already sold it's come down to three sets that I am considering for different reasons. They are:

http://columbus.craigslist.org/msg/957575960.html

http://columbus.craigslist.org/msg/966043863.html

http://columbus.craigslist.org/msg/957917829.html

After contacting all three sellers they have come down in price a little. I kind of like the Sonor because it falls between the others in price. But I'm open to suggestions. Bottom line is I might start playing the drums and not like it. I also want to protect my investment by buying a set that won't devalue too much.

The Pulse set is $300, the Sonor is $500, and the Yamaha is $850. The guy with the Yamaha will deliver it and set it up. So, please, any opinions on these sets would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your time.

first choice is Yamaha.

second is Sonor

third and least, is the Pulse

Alex

Haha!! I knew you were going to say that. Does that Yamaha sound like a good buy as far as price? I need to discuss it with my wife. But if she thinks I should go with the Sonor because of price does $500 for the Sonor kit sound okay? Thanks again.

well the Yamaha is going to prolly be the best value, just because your getting a higher quality set and add-on's with it..

but, the Sonor would also be great...especially for a starter set...

its up to you, and some more will charm in to say their part in this, but...the Sonor looks like a nice set...never played one..but ive heard good things.

Alex

to each their own...

but, i respectfully disagree with you..

Alex

Its cool man. Im sure there is some stuff that i like that you would disagree with as well. Like the discontinued Zildjian Earth Ride. Everyone I know thinks its too pingy but i love it.
