Default Well THAT'S new...

This snare just came up in a Google search, but I can't find any info on it. Any of y'all know what this is?

Edit... Never mind. Looks like it's by AK drums. Any idea what the advantage to this kind of wire configuration would be?

Just by looking at it, it seems like it would be more sensitive at the edges crosswise to the regular snare direction - i.e. at 90 and 270 degrees.
A lot more work making the snare beds though.

Kinda looks like the strainer butts are on the hoop also. What a complex piece of gear. I would love to have a go at it, or at least hear it.

I have an old snare I just might try this with. Looks simple enough to duplicate mechanically, but musically will be the trick.

It's a Damion Reid signature model. Around 0:30 and 3:30

To me it sounds like a normal snare when the bottom head gets ripped. But with a little more snare sound.

I wonder how many times he gets asked "hey man what's wrong with your snare?"

That's too many snare beds on one snare IMO. It kills the tone.

It may need to be deeper to make up for the extra muffling of the bottom head. It might actually work really well on a 10-inch or more depth drum.

^^^this, plus more wires (or surface might be a more appropriate term) to worry about when packing and setup.

5 mini snare beds, and holes thru the hoop and 5 mini snare butts. 11 individual tuning screws.

To me that snare sounds choked. I'm sure it can be adjusted a little looser

God forbid dropping it, damaging it, and having to replace the bottom hoop.
