Default Maison Guidry (an unbelievable, amazing talent)

Words can't describe how talented this guy is, he has the most fastest and accurate right foot you'll ever seen, Maison is like a mix between Mark Guiliana, Nate Wood, Thomas Pridgen and Jojo Mayer.
You have to see him play to believe it, the killer right foot is just a part of his limitless vocabulary, i don't know why at the moment he only plays with Jonathan Scale and a few other small projects, but i'm sure he will be one of the most on demand drummers in the near future.
He's like the prototype of the perfect drummer...extremely flawless, equipped with an impressive technique, you can see and hear that he plays with passion and heart....seems like there's no limit in what he can do on drums!

Here his best videos (live and in studio), take your time and watch it until the end....if you love drums these videos are a treasure!

Just checked out the first vid. Very cool clunky music, feels like a soundtrack to a cool anime or something....I dig it. I ll have to check out some more stuff. Steel drums, how great is that, some really cool interplay, very enjoyable listen. These guys are terrific, bass is fabulous, this drummer is outside the box and wacky, but not in a jarring, pull you out of the music type of way. Nice one Keepy!!

Thanks for the heads up on this guy. I especially love to see guys playing both music and chops, (but often not at the same time) as well as 4 piece kits...

Maison Guidry is one of the most complete drummers around, he has everything: technique, speed, fantasy, originality.
I think the only reason he don't play for some of the biggest artists in the jazz and funk world is because most of the positions are already covered and the majority of those artists tends to stick with the same drummer for several years , for example Marcus Gilmore and Justin Brown are two of the most demanded drummers in the jazz scene, and who is already playing with them hardly will let them go in the near future, same thing for Justin Tyson with Robert Glasper.
Maison probably doesn't have good connections in the jazz/funk/r&b scene at the moment, this is the only reason why he's not playing with some of the big names in this business.
Who says that he plays like every other gospel drummer is deaf or just doesn't have enough knowledge to judge a drummer like him.

Maison can literally play everything:

This guy has a really cool groove. Sits perfectly in the music, interesting but not detracting. I'll probably look for more of his work, not that I have to since you collect it all here... Just for posterity? Thanks!

I don't know how many videos you've watched, he has a really cool groove but that's not all, when you'll have enough time to check out some other videos you will realize that Maison Guidry is really one of a kind.
He should slow down sometimes, other than that....he's almost perfect in every aspect (and I'm not exaggerating), one of the few that's bringing something new to the table, and he can only get better if he will have the opportunity to go in the studio to record with some big names of the jazz-funk-soul-r&b scene.
In my opinion Maison would be perfect with Robert Glasper on his Experiment band project, he deserve a big spot like that.

Probably watched about 3 but was really impressed by the first. Guy has really great feel to his playing. Micro-timing on point.

I'm sure that when you'll have time you will find something interesting even in the other videos, this guy's skills are out of this world.
He got some fills and chops that i've seen only from the greats...

What this guy has is so much more than fills and chops. Anybody can sit around and practice fills and chops over and over until you can execute without thinking about it, but true musicians like this guy have learned to understand music and how they affect it with every aspect of how they play. Thinking back, I can't remember a single fill this guy played, but I'm still affected by the musicality displayed in the first one I clicked. He used different dynamics well and just had great feel that made the songs sound better.

I don't know why such an amazing drummer is not in a big band or with high caliber artists, i like the jonathan scales fourchestra.....but a drummer like Maison deserves bigger spots.

It's usually far more complicated than just being a good player. Sometimes it's right place, right time, sometimes you have a great audition, sometimes your own commitments or life won't allow playing with huge acts. I think he's great in that "fourchestra" and if he's enjoying it, he should have fun!

I agree with everything you wrote, but from the perspective of somebody that loves music i'd like to see him playing with multiple artists, involved in different projects and music's genres. An amazing musicians like him deserves to be seen from bigger audiences...

I like it. I love reggae, and this is not reggae. BUT, it sounds like jazz and island music trying to find some reggae?! I've always liked steel drums. Probably because they're drums, and quite melodic.

Anyway, good stuff. Interesting

Playing with Bela Fleck is a very cool thing! I started listening to Bela and the Flecktones over 20 years ago. Nothing like an electric banjo jazz jam band, thing.

make that two...just took a listen and to me he sounded like any other "jazz chops" showoff. Honestly don't mean to insult him, it's just my opinion and my preferences...you can tell he has tons of great ability, but it's the style that ruins it for me. "look how fast and complicated I can try to make this sound...look at me!"

Maybe jo jones is the GOAT, in that video he wasn't doing anything special.
Anyway, i'll never understand why people like to talk about other drummers on a thread about a specific drummer...

If you start to find yourself in a position where you're not being taken too seriously. It would be worth reflecting back on comments like this, as to why.

I find this guy one of the most exciting drummers I've heard in a long time. I haven't heard much of him in a musical context, but man, that foot. Power, precision, and speed. You can see his kick drum trying to escape the punishment. :)
