Find a Drum Teacher Here

Hi,

I'm located on the south shore of Long Island in the Bayport area. I have a 6 year old who is interested in learning how to play drums. She loves big band and swing, jazz, New Orleans style, and other music as well. I understand that at first she will learn how to keep rhythm, but I thought it important to state where her interests lay.

Can anyone recommend someone local to teach her simple licks? Also, what kind of kit should I be looking for? Just a snare to start with a pad to practice on? Thanks for all your help. Feel free to email me at [email protected] with recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS
A former student of Jim Chapin (20th century's most influential drum set educator) Jacob teaches two concepts of which Jim Chapin surpassed most, if not all. ALL styles of drum set require require mastery of:
  • Hand Technique Moeller Method a "time-tested concept" which Jacob learned directly from Jim Chapin (who studied with Sanford Augustus Moeller, himself) a must for every serious student of the instrument. Regardless of drumming style, age , student, professional, male or female. This technique is a prerequisite for advanced studies.
  • Coordinated Independence - as applied to ALL styles of drum set. As a musical instrument, drum set is unique because of the four-limb coordination necessary to master. Using classic texts & proven original concepts applicable to ALL styles.
  • Member Vic Firth - Educational Team

STUDENT LEVEL:
Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced & Professional Students (Moeller Method)
(Serious students 11 years old and older)

LESSON DETAILS:
  • How many lessons you take is completely up to you. However, there are certain principles that apply for consistency in learning to get the most out of your studies and make the best progress in the shortest amount of time:
  • I do not teach anyone more than once per week because it is unnecessary.
  • Once per week is the perfect schedule for progress and continuity. It allows sufficient time to practice new material and introduce new concepts at a brisk pace. This the ultimate option for quick progress.
  • Multi-Hour Lessons (minimum two-hour lessons) are a great way to maximize your study time. Regardless of a desire to do a multi-hour lesson on your first lesson, it should only be one hour, unless you are from out of town.

OTHER RELEVANT DETAILS:

CURRENT AVAILABILITY:
Regular weekly students, who have developed a consistency, usually claim a time in the schedule as their own and guard it accordingly…
Basically, the teaching schedule is fluid and an attempt is made to accommodate everyone’s schedule -
At times, the “waiting-list” size fluctuates, so the savviest approach to getting your slot in the teaching schedule is to request early by email.

I Like it...

Is there a teacher in St. Charles MO area that comes to the students house?

I would like a once a month lesson that focuses partly on technique and partly on helping me to be a better cover band drummer.

Not interested in virtual lessons.
