My sister just found this old pic of me playing my 60's Slingerland kit. (My first kit)
It was blue satin swirl in color.
I would have been around 14 years old at the time.
I used to sit on a wooden Narragansett beer bottle case with a foam cushion tied to it! LOL
I would use the case to carry the hardware.

Great Photo..."where the heart of roll and roll starts". Bet that set proved hours of fun and working out a lot of details about drumming!!!! Denis

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!

That's YOU!

Gotta love that psychedelic swirl!

Thanks for that Bob!

I haven't changed a bit! Have I larry?
I really miss that kit. I sold it for about $100 in 1976. If I only knew and I could turn back time... If I could only grow that hair again...
Slingerlandfreak has one just like it.

denisri; I think that I could roll better back then than I do now. I certainly could roll with the punches a lot better.

The mug hasn't changed, and I'll bet you could still get into those jeans too!

Geez Bob you look like you could have fit inside your floor tom!

What the heck were you doing with your drum set out on the lawn?

Too loud for the house?

What were you listening to then?

Bob, nice picture - lovely traditional 4-piece!!! You have that swing...a la Mitch Mitchell.

I remember frequently setting up and playing outside. I liked the sound of the drums as they echoed through the neighborhood. A friend of mine used to sometimes bring his kit over and we would play and do trade offs outside. I still like outdoor gigs the best. I play a lot of outdoor things to this day.
I probably only weighed about 110 lbs back then. My three younger sisters and I were all thin. I had a 28 inch waist! I was 5'11"
I was into The Beatles, Black Sabbath, The Allman Bros, And Chicago. I also liked Herb Alpert.
I had played the trumpet for a while.

Here is what my kit looked like in color. I borrowed this pic from my friend Slingerlandfreak's pics. I hope that he doesn't mind.

Sorry, missed this post.

Looking at that blue satin swirl kit in color made me just the least bit sea sick!
It is a bit different. I have fond memories of my past with that wild looking kit. You have to take into consideration my age and the times.
I really wish that I still had that kit. I would have a blast with it while playing it and reminiscing about days gone by.
Do you think that that makes me a sentimental old fool?
If I am, Then so be it! I was very happy when my sister sent me those pictures.
Thanks for your post.

Sentimental? Yes. A fool? Maybe, but Old? Neber-Eber EBER!!!. Age is but a date on the calendar. You my friend are still that same skinny kid behind the swirly kit only with better stories to tell!

Very very cool Bob. I hope I still have this picture in 39 years...
