Was the Pearl BLX really that much different than the old DLX?

I was reading another board and there was a discussion that the DLX and BLX were two totally different types of drums. They are both birch but most of the people were saying that the DLX was so much better. I played a BLX kit a while back and it sounded pretty good to me and if I remember correctly, it had a shiny interior finish which I heard helps it to project better.

Just want to hear your thoughts.

DLX was a birch and other wood mix shell.

The BLX was an all birch shell.

What sounds better is purely objective.

I had a BLX kit for years and I actually didnt like it. Odly I know. Years?. Denial I guess.
It was all Birch, very expensive and very "high end" at the time I bought it.
I tried to get it to sound good with different heads, tuning, muffling ...etc but it always had a ton of overtones I just couldnt get rid of.
It was thunderous and super loud though. Maybe thats why I wasent in a hurry to get rid of it.
I think i'm just a Maple kind of guy. They seem to be easier to tune and have less overtones
