Hi guys,

I just picked up an early 70's Gretsch 4160 chrome over brass snare. I was led to believe that all was fine besides some minor pitting and a couple of scratches, however initial inspection showed that the reso hoop was dramatically bowed and after wrestling to get the reso head off I can see that the drum is out of round and has mushroomed outwards slightly by both the strainer and butt plate. I'm sure it can be brought back into round but I lack the know-how.

Are any of you chaps in the UK able to recommend anyone that specialises in repairing and restoring vintage drums? I've dug up a couple of names but I know you vintage guys are a close knit bunch and I'm sure someone on Drummerworld can point me in a good direction.

Alternatively if any of you know a solid way to beat it back into round I'd happily take your advice onboard.

Thanks all
