Very interesting, thank for sharing!
Her first teacher must have been quite embarrassed :).

I also wonder how she can speak so clearly, given her deafness.

I was lucky enough to be in a small clinic with her (just before i started drumming)where she was talking about many aspects of percussion, and indeed listening to music a few years ago at the the University of Aberdeen, where she is an honoury graduate- and now where i work as it turns out.

she's a pheonomenal talent

I came across this video a few months back, and I really think it's pretty eye-opening. She's one of the best percussionists in the world, and I think everyone who plays an instrument should hear this.

Great, great TED talk. Here's another that I believe drummers specifically should check out because of our foundational role in most situations.

Excellent video. kleiber and Von Karajan are two of my favorite conductors, Von Karajan for his warmth, Kleiber for his energy. It is interesting to see how they got these sounds out of the orchestra.
