That's a nice, solid sound, for sure.

It doesn't really stand out as unique to me, though. I think I like more unusual sounds or something.

'Love Shack' by the B52's.

Brady Wandoo block snare, late 80's. Each snare hit just sounds perfect to my ears.

The first time I ever noticed a snares tone was Chad smiths snare in walkabout. It sounds like a nickel on brass drum.

I find myself missing the ringy snare tones of the mid 90s. Morphine's album "Yes" is a good example!

Here is what I like.

I like a low LA snare tuning.

and I like a high popcorn snare tuning.

I also like an EZ to use snare tension adjustment.

I like 8 or so lugs.

I also like old beater gutbucket snare drums that put out that loose rumble from the 20's and 30's roadhouse circuit.

So I'm all over the map. Steel, wood, alloy doesn't really matter either.

Ohhhhh yeah. All of BSSM!

Similar era- I'll say Matt Cameron's snare on the Temple Of The Dog album. Particularly the track "Wooden Jesus". Soooo good.

Two different (and great) tones in the same song - John Mayer - Assassin.

Steve Jordan on the drums, I believe. Tight and controlled, then big, ringy and loose. Great stuff.

Metallica - Black Album. An all-around solid drum tone on this album. Whodathunkit.

One from my early days, love this snare sound when it comes in.

It's heavily processed and has an effect behind it, plus the beat seems to be looped but love the extra/distortion ring to it.

http://youtu.be/D431CwC9wTw

Edit, actually another one from that album that seemed to be full of snare ring is below. Again heavily processed, even more than the last one.
