Default & here I go again :) :(

Less than a week before our debut gig with the new (grossly under rehearsed) original music trio, & of course, the first gig turns out to be challenging on a number of fronts.

1st up is the old nut of a club running live stage for multiple bands & not having the slightest idea of how to do so. Bottom line is (after much back & forth), I'm providing the rear line kit for 3 bands, because the incompetents in charge can't get their head around some simple logistics. Ah well, changeover will take longer then! No contacts provided for the other drummers (I'd at least like to hook up with them to discuss setups).

2nd up is the gig itself. The new trio is in the alternative pop/rock style, but we're booked as second support in a blues gig. The headline is a traditional blues act (Mick Ralphs - Bad Company/Mott the Hoople), & first support is a superb heavy blues trio who I know well. 3rd support (on before us) is a solo blues guitarist. All in all, we're about as far removed as I can imagine from the expectations of a paying traditional blues audience! I'm imagining the tumbleweeds at the end of each song as I type this post!!

At least you don't have to play Raw Hide for 2 hours.

Gigs like that... Get pumped, put on your Braveheart makeup, and go out. Knock em dead or die trying. Try to enjoy yourselves in the process.

If an unresponsive club audience was an excuse to get down about performing original music, there'd be nothing new to listen to.

I'll bet that you guys will knock them out cold. Anyone who puts as much love and attention into the sound of his drums will do so with his playing as well. Don't forget, all of the recent music worth hearing has it's roots in the blues. I'll bet you folks will provide a pleasent change of pace for the crowd. We're all rooting for you. Besides, I always liked Paul Kossoff better than Mick Ralphs.

Cool, looking forward to meeting you! Not my project, it's Ria's, I'm just the basher ;) Go easy though mate - a few practices & straight to stage for the first time. Expect a few (ahem) jazz moments :)

Have you seen Troy's trio before? Absolutely superb, road tight + talented, & I'll be shocked if they're not act of the night :)

I hope so, but expecting a very traditional crowd. They're paying $25 a head, so expecting a blues experience :(

Most unlikely, or if they do, it will be because of Troy Redfern. Best blues guitarist I've seen in years!

We'll see - I love the cliff edge of potential disaster. I think I've already mildly pissed off the sound man :(

hahaha tumbleweeds! question, who booked a gig where there is such a difference in music style? Not that its a bad thing, but someone should have known what your band was getting into. Im sure youll kill it anyway! I would love to be there to jeer and throw rotten tomatoes....

Ive not seen them live yet but I know Phil (great name for a drummer) really well so looking forward to catching them.
I'm sure you'll be fine! As much as I love Blues it'll be nice to have another type of band on the bill to mix it up a bit, I've played in there once myself and I got the impression that the crowd are there to just enjoy music no matter what the genre :)
Anyway I'll see you Friday
Jack

Guys - you decide if we're ready. Here's a little clip collection I compiled from last night's rehearsal.

I know, vocal volume sucks, but that's rehearsal room PA's for you :(

That's good to know Jack. I've not played the venue before. Is Tom & Paul coming? I heard mutterings :)

Will you be backlining some Guru Drums? You will excellent man! Dont sweat the small stuff. Just make sure the other drummers treat your drums with care.

So this time it is you and on Guru's? I was confused earlier-which happens more and more lately ; ). Great job Andy-nice driving kick, snare and cymbal accents-accompanies the music perfectly. Drums and cymbals sound great too. You don't even need those toms-just cymbals, snare and kick would do just fine-maybe a floor tom. Kicking off with this song would be a great start.

Yes - the set that's in this video. It's fine, I know one of the drummers well, & Mick Ralphs's drummer seems steady enough :)

Yes, me this time :) Just to add to your confusion, there's three songs featured on this video clip "compilation".

Should have qualified kicking off with the third song. Ha,ha
I never noticed how much you lead off with your right hand on some of your snare accents-awesome. I really like the third song. You really seem to be enjoying yourself on that one too!!!!

Nor did I! Yet I lead off more with my left than my right with certain triplets & hat accents. I'm a weird fish ;) Did I mention that bass drum part at 1:37 is an absolute b&^$d to get clean every time? :(
