Pretty funny and lame at the same time. I have to agree about Bozzio, though. Not that he's a douche, but who DOES need 30 toms? It's like he has this overly gigantic drum set just so he can say ' i have the biggest drum set". That's just my guess. I have a picture from memphis Drum shop of his pedal set up. it's crazy. A complete circle of DW9000s. there must've been 40 of them. Just dumb......

Two and a half octaves with chromatic tuning isn't excessive given that he's playing songs on the drums. It's true that he often starts his drum tunes piddling around on the cymbals, though.

I agree, 2 guys DO belong on this list, but overall I think this is a load of BS.
The Bozzio thing made me laugh, to many drums? Has this guy taking a good look at guitarists? I know more than a few guys who have 20+ pedals that they feel they need for every gig. lol.

He did do a list of the douchiest guitarists as well. But it wasn't because of the gear they have. That one was quite funny as well. And let's admit it, other than Animal, he hit the nail on the head with at least one aspect for every one of these guys. Awesome.

Good point. Rich was an uberdouche.

But I think all the drummers on the list are still alive. Wouldn't be as much fun otherwise.

I don't know why but this makes me think of my favorite Patton Oswalt joke where he talks about people who love watching "reality" television...

"I'm surrounded by d***heads and ***holes every day. I can't wait to get home and watch more d***heads and ***holes!"

lol

Oddly enough, yesterday I was discussing with my teenage daughter singing while playing guitar. I used John Mayer as an example- good singer and good guitar player. I also referred to him as a douche, although as douche nozzle, not a douche bag.

That was the most stupidity I've ever read in one article, and I only read half of it. Even Fox News does get this dumb.

Seriously, if you're as big time as the players on the list you can get away with being a feminine hygiene product. That's the attraction of fame and fortune - it's a licence to douche out.

If Phil Collins is a douche, then I for one would be quite happy to swap my coolness (?) for his douchery, his ability on the kit, and his bank balance......

I've read some pretty convincing arguements that his performance for the Zeppelin reunion at Live Aid in 1985, was enough to grant him automatic inclusion to life membership on that list.

They weren't very good........and Phil went a large part of the way towards ensuring it was so. :-)

Having actually watched the Live Aid performance of Led Zeppelin at Live Aid (it's on YouTube), it's fair to say that Phil Collins isn't necessarily the problem. He's not Bonham at all but Plant and Page are all over the place. Plant's voice is shot and Page can hardly play.

Collins really wasn't the problem.

He still ruined Genesis but he didn't ruin Led Zeppelin!

We need to continue this over a few beers I reckon. The drunker I get, the better my argument. :-)

Suffice it to say, there were two drummers on stage that day. One shone brightly. The other merely appeared to be lost in the trip of a 'Phil Collins and friends' event.

But all in all, yes I agree. It certainly wasn't their finest hour......any of them.

I don't think anyone on stage at that point was exempt from the contibution they made to the overall debacle that is was. Collins was interviewed years later and his take was that Tony Thomson, god rest him, had no interest in playing with a second drummer. I certainly wasn't impressed by either drummers take on the classic material, and i was very into both at the time.

But it was terrible. Still, one bad performance does not a douche make....

Very true. Being a douche isn't a barrier to fame and fortune and may actually help it.

It would be interesting to see the biggest decent people who are drummers. Despite what I have said about Ringo, he seems like a good person who has contributed much in many ways over decades and is held in high regard by those who know him, even if the rest of society makes fun of him. He's like an anti-douche.

Help me with this list - the list of the most decent, honest, personable and centered drummers. Talent really isn't an issue, any more than it would be with douche drummers. Also, they must still be alive. This list will be more challenging than a douche list, simply because people pay more attention to douches and don't really give many props for being a decent person, except at funerals.

1. Ringo
2. Steve Gadd (?)
3. Peter Erskine
???

As soon as I saw the title I thought of Lars - lmao! Though I've never been a huge Metallica fan, they need to keep Lars playing drums and let some one else speak for the band. What an asshole!

I think that pretentiousness comes with individuality and especially self-interest. I don't know who the author is, do you? Do you care? It was silly and provocative, a little "truth" to spice it up...that's about it.

"10) Terry Bozzio
Terry Bozzio doesn't necessarily come across as the biggest egomaniac in interviews or even during his concerts. It's more or less his monstrous drum kit that is the real douchebag in this situation. Why someone would EVER need 30 toms and two dozen cymbals to play the drums in ANY genre is beyond us. And why does every solo begin with this obligatory need to tap every fucking gong and wind chime he owns? We're willing to concede that anyone good enough to play drums for Frank Zappa deserves a little extra room to stretch out. That doesn't mean create a kit that looks like something you could strap wheels on and drive around on the set of Mad Max"

Only a drummer or perhaps die-hard musician could defend Mr. Terry Bozzio on the above! ;)

For the most part, I'm just teasing.........for the most part.

Saw just how many reactions to that blog were completely OTT and figured that since this forum now appears to be devoid of all semblance of fun, playful ridicule and ability to pull the piss out of ourselves, it was high time to take out a large wooden spoon and stir the pot.

And tell me, with Lars bashing tired, predictable and clichéd, who better to take aim at than Phil 'el douche' Collins? :-)

in fairness to phil i believe he came home early one day and caught his wife in bed with the decorator,,,not the "decorator" as in highly paid, hollywood celebrity, home design consultant but decorator as in the man painting the kitchen.
