Customizing DTX 500 sounds??

I've got an awesome, rockin' DTX 535K and I've tried to customize some sounds and make them sound good. I am failing miserably and need help.

Does anyone know of a website or anywhere I can go for assistance in making my drums sound like certain bands... ie, Rush, Genesis, Journey, Iron Maiden, etc?

Thanks in advance, Defender

Hi Defender,

To get started on customizing with the DTX500 module I suggest to first start with a good preset kit such as the Oak or Maple Custom. Then store the kit into to a user kit. After storing the kit go to Drum Kit then press the Right arrow page button to get to the kit voice section. The Kit voices are set up under categorizes such K: Kick S: Snare, etc.. There are many choices for the different voices so please reference the Data list in the manual to see all the available choices. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips, but I've already kind of got that figured out. What I'm looking for is some setting, whatever they may be (ie... reverb, thickness, etc to emulate some professional band's kits)

I'm not too familiar with the 500 series module (other than reviewing features within the manual)... I've got the 900 series module and what I find that helps is just diving in and experimenting with different settings...and to be honest that's a never ending quest...I've saved many tweaked kits to my USB....I know that there are kits available for the 900 series module that emulate famous drummers kit sounds, but pretty sure it's not available for the dtx500... You could go the VST route, if you haven't already; I'm sure going that route will open up a lot of opportunities for creating the sounds you want...

Here's an example of a BFD VST ....this version is based on metal drum kit samples...but you can custom your library pretty much how you want it, based on drum samples, studios, etc...

The main difference between module samples and VST samples is size....VST libraries are huge in comparison to your module library of sounds...for example, a really nice sounding VST kit can easily be in the 5GB size range (just 1kit), whereas the total library size in your module might be a couple hundred MB's...with that added size you are able to create very realistic kits!....the downside is you have one more electronic device (laptop) to possibly
fail...and also setup can be quite a pain to get everything right...
