s week!

Ha, that got ya'll :)

Sorry guys, blatant Simon promo time, but got to share these obscure Simon clips with my DW pals.

In my opinion (for what it's worth), this is Simon at his absolute best. Performance is in two halves. Please watch both, it's worth it!

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGigDxMg7uY

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H29XbvJkeQ&NR=1

This is one gig I'd love to have attended. All superb players. Bass player's a monster! Enjoy.

I knew it!

Los Lobotomys, oh yes! Lukather is such a M@F%. Love David Garfield too ( too many cheeseburgers though.. ) and Simon is killing it.

Andy, I heard Simon in 200* with his band Protocol. I kind like him better now.. a more mature head and a lot more sophistication of ideas... my take, what do you think? I shall bow to your superior Simonology.

I agree Abe, but there's just something about the old rock exuberance in this LL clip that resonates with my simple brain.

That said, I'm really liking Simon's new PSP project. A sort of more musically rounded Protocol that's matured nicely, allowing great textures to flow as a result of creative comfort & teamsmanship. Loving this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLKoGuNNdwE&feature=related

yeah few people can solo like them.
I think it's Simon's trademark to solo over a vamp.

Very much the "Space Boogie" vibe Simon was doing ....
Got to chat with him, for about 20 minutes, once .... what a very nice cat, he was ...

Outrageous virtuosity. I was exhausted just watching those clips.

My introduction to SP's playing was the 801 Live album. A shame there's no video footage of that gig (those gigs?). SP was insane. For mine, his best playing on that album was in Tomorrow Never Knows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkCQOdQ0Q8A

1976 ... 35 years ago. He was just 19 - *phew!*

I also had SP's playing on Phil Manzanera's Listen Now album, where he behaved himself, ie. superb in a more subtle way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAJrS3yiZYM

Great clips Pol! That Eno one's insane for the period. Simon's trademark hat control & groove is very evident. A 19 year old rock drummer, I mean, c'mon!

Did you like that PSP excerpt Pol? I thought the power jungle vibe would appeal to your love of tub thumping, as it does mine.

Harry, yes, Simon's a real English gentleman.

... albeit a 19 year old rock drummer who'd already been playing pro for 7 years. I think he started out in a Dixieland band.

The clips? Actually, I found the music a bit "faceless" but there were some awesome moments. He's an amazing player. I don't think I could play a single bar of anything he did in them lol
