Drums Against A Wall or In A Booth / Small Room

I was wondering how much more you / your ears get exposed to the sound of playing either with the drums against a wall or in a drummers booth / small room and if it just bounces straight back at you potentially doing more harm compared to playing in a larger area.

One of the things that made me think about it was years ago we had a small PA (can't remember if it was 120 watts total or per side) that could deafen you in small room ... we did a gig in a field and literally the sound just disappeared ... ended up buying a much bigger PA as a result.

Low ceilings aren’t a lot of fun either, the times when either the whole band have been under one or it’s just been me at the back on a raised bit of staging have been a nightmare to mix with y snare in particular sounding like a succession of explosions.

If you practice in a small room, wear earplugs.

If you have to perform in an aquarium (behind plexi), get a set of IEM's.

Both of these situations are very bad for your hearing.
