Default PDP kit with DW badges...?

Just a stupid question but is it lame If you have a PDP kit and replace the kit with DW badges and bass drum head with the DW logo? I personally love DW and have wanted to buy a kit for a while but I don't think the extra money to dish out for a DW is worth it. I want a PDP and I was just wondering why do I want to have a DW kit so much more than a PDP? Is it that it doesn't look as professional or what? I've seen people replace the badges (Which I would never do) But for some reason I just can't get over the fact that it's not DW.

I would also agree it's very lame.

One man's opinion, it's lame. Just own whatever you play, no excuses. You're a victim, like all of us, of marketing, that's why. Brainwashed in a way. Myself included.

If I'm honest, it sounds very much like insecurity from where I'm sitting.

If it's "no big deal" as you say, then you'd just buy the PDP and be content with it. But the fact that you want to mask an intermediate kit as being something that's more higher end reeks of insecurity to me.

If it really was no big deal you'd get what you want and enjoy playing the thing. You're trying to convince yourself that "technically PDP is DW", but you don't really believe it. If you did, you wouldn't feel the burning desire to misrepresent what you're actually playing. At least, that's how it looks to me.

Remember, what you say is far more important than what you say it on. Get whatever kit makes you happy and then focus on the important aspect......making music.

Unless you change all of the lugs to the turret ones, you are fooling no one. Even with the Mercedes hood ornament, my Mercury is still a Mercury . I also doubt you can buy DW badges unless they are attached to drums.

If you want a DW, then buy the design series. You can probably find a good deal on a used design series for $700.

Don't put DW badges/logo heads on a PDP kit. That's like those boy racers who put Acura badges on their Hondas and say, "Well, it's JDM so, yeah it's an Acura." You aren't fooling anyone. It's dumb and makes you look like a very immature and self-conscious person.

Don't stick a DW reso head on PDPs - you will just look foolish.

Take Tommy D's advice - buy used design series. They will be practically depreciation proof - and you won't look or feel like a tool.

Turn it up mate. To "seem cool" is exactly why someone would even consider this. It's all about image.......however you try and spin it.

Sorry to be blunt, but even asking these questions is lame.
Just play your PDP drums. You enjoy them so quit worrying about image.

Awful.. I once saw someone put a DW head on PDP drums and I thought it was the worst thing ever. Just beyond lame to even consider it and try to fool people.

Bo once said something to the effect of; the drummer makes the drums sound good, not the other way around. Enjoy playing and enjoy playing whatever kit you own.

I have a Ludwig 14X10 snare with a PDP head on it.... I'm thinking Evans but the PDP head works.

Swapping badges? About 10 years ago I rewrapped a Slingerland floor tom and the badge was destroyed in the process. So now... only I know the secret of that sweet sounding tom!

As a proud PDP owner I'd like to offer you some free therapy. Repeat after me: "I love my PDP, I love my PDP, I love my PDP". There,... now don't you feel better about your kit already.

Actually, my PDP Platinum kit came with DW batters, toms and bass. I swapped them out for better sounding heads soon after I got the kit.

Very lame. Play your drums and enjoy playing them. Buy what you can afford or what you want to afford, or don't don't buy anything, save, and look for deals.

Ha! Me, too! I have a gig kit I rewrapped in WMP...it now looks like a no-name kit, but the three toms are Pearl Masters series. Bass drum is a 60's (or 70's?) Premier 3-ply mahogany. My little secret...

That's the only good reason to swap badges, to scam people. Might as well go all the way and try and make a little dough.

We don't care that he got Yamahas.

We're not even close to beating this horse dead yet lol.

There was this kid in high school (circa 1997) who had a mustang LX with the 4 cylinder engine. It was in perfect condition, and he replaced all the cosmetic stuff, got GT wheels, chrome dual exhuast, 5.0 badges, the correct steering wheel and shifter, etc. It looked just like a GT and was the sharpest mustang at school by far.

And we all laughed, because he had gone to all that effort because he wanted a GT, but it was still just a 4 banger. Still slow.

PDP kits are quality. Be proud of it.

I've been lacerated for suggesting that putting DW branding on a PDP kit was a bad idea. The cacophony of PDPISADWCOMPANYSOITCOUNTS rationalization was dreadful.

You know, I can't think of a company other than DW that does that - market its import drums as a completely different brand, I mean. From Ludwig to Sonor, they all import Chinese kits, and they all put their own branding on them. They'd make a SLAUGHTER - worse than a mere killing - if they rebranded PDP as DW - all they'd need to change is badges and logo kick heads and keep them at that price point.

...of course, they could continue to sell DW reso kick heads to the fanbois as well as PDP kits if they let things continue as they are...

...never mind. ;-)

DW on a PDP kit. Don't do it. Your average fan doesn't know the difference in drums 1 kit to the next, be it sonar, tama, pearl dw or pdp.

The people who do know the difference will be your fellow musicians, specifically fellow drummers. To them it will seam like Rolls Royce hood ornament on a Volkswagen.

If you buy a PDP kit be proud of it. PDP make good drums. Worst case senerio on the bottom of the PDP head it says made by DW

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I just recently bought my first PDP kit, CX series, made in Mexico, all maple shells, gorgeous red sparkle wrap, just an all around excellent kit and I'm very proud of it. However, I can't find PDP logo front bass drum heads online. Tons of DW logo heads from seemingly endless stores, but no PDP. So I bought a DW Classic coated white, vintage logo, and put it on my PDP. Am I an animal? I own and gig a DW Collectors too! I don't feel like I'm trying to "fool" anyone, so where do I fit in on this?

There are no Keller shell PDP kits, and DW has made its own shells since 1997. Just by coincidence my DW kit does have Keller shells (yup, it's old), but your joke is still, I don't know, kind of not true or funny.

You would have no problems buying a bass reso with no logo if you couldn't get a PDP one, but ultimately they are your drums, your money, your decision and, who really cares?

I had an '87 4-cylinder Mustang. Here's the secret--most girls didn't know the difference, so I got to impress the ladies while spending less on the car, the insurance, AND the gas. But it was red and I was a teenage boy, so cops pulled me over for just existing when I drove it. LOL

Doesn't make any sense. All those that might care about the make of the drums also knows the look of the lugs.

And besides that, PDP makes great drums. Without all the fuss and magic of DW.

I'm only going to half quote you too. You half make sense so it only seems fair. One more time THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY KELLER SHELL PDP KITS NOR HAVE THERE BEEN KELLER DW DRUMS FOR ALMOST TWENTY YEARS. Sorry for yelling but you seem to not hear well or read things fully. Also there are no "Keller badges", oh yeah and, my kit is A DW COLLECTORS! So it came with DW badges.
