Royalties to deceased musicians?

Hi all!
I've recently come to my senses and decided to start buying a lot more of my music to support the artists i love so much, however some of my favorite albums all of the musicians who played one the record have passed away.
I am just wondering who the royalties actually go to? Is it just the record companies or the families of the deceased? Feedback appreciated!

Any royalties that would have been due to the artist when alive will duly pass to the deceased's estate, assuming those arrangements have been made. Different countries will have different laws concerning when a copyright expires. I think in the UK it is/was something like 70 years. So Mozart's descendents aren't still receiving royalties from sheet music and unit sales.

If the company owns the copywrite (such as Universal Music Group), they will get those royalties forever! Companies never die!
