Art of bop question

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me with this one bar phrase from the art of bop. I'm trying to work out how it relates to the triplet divisions in the standard jazz rhythm. I'm sure it's obvious. The CD of John playing it kind of helps but it is very quick (to my untrained ears!)

Cheers,

David

an easy way is to think sextuplets

in the first grouping ...first beat on the kick (as it were going to be a normal 8th note) then the second half of a sextuplet starting on the "and"

the third grouping is just the opposite ...the first half of the sextuplet then the 8th note...like a single stroke 4

just swing the 8th notes and you will get the feel

it's a bit like those classic Max Roach licks
