Which Snare To Choose?

The Danny Carrey is a good choice. Just be sure you want a really resonant metallic snare, because that's what the 8" depth will do to it. Unless you muffle it, and then what's the point... you lose alot of the power the depth gives you.

I'd personally look for a cast steel or hammered bronze snare if I were you. Also, a Mapex Adler snare for metal.

the mapex adler snare is great, but keep in mind it's only 12" diameter so it's going to sound very high pitched.

Both are good snares for metal, but personally I would prefer a stainless steel one. Something like 14"x6,5". I actually found an old (and abandoned) Tama 14"x6,5" steel snare in the building where my old bands rehearsed. Took it home, cleaned it, put on new heads and snare wires. Have never looked back since =) It sounds AWESOME both in studio and live!
