Question about those who use the Pearl quick release winglock

i really like these, i have 2 but since a protective shaft is build in, i find myself have to cut the shaft off my cymbal sleeves to get it to work right so im curious what you guys are doing, if im missing something that is just a better idea or something.

Cut 'em. That's the best I could come up with too.
